Children

We call for the inclusion of the voices and experiences of young people in the decisions made about safety and security online and promote their safety, privacy, and access to information. We recognise children’s right to healthy emotional and sexual development, which includes the right to privacy and access to positive information about sex, gender and sexuality at critical times in their lives.

Principle In Action :
  • Si Jeunesse Savait is a youth organization working with young people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They use technology to advance sexual rights, share information on sex education, and amplify the voices of young people in internet policy.

  • Mitali Thakor wrote an article for GISWatch entitled Problematising the dominant discourse around children, youth and the internet. In it, she explores the dominant discourse of victimization of children online as one that does not uphold victim rights but actually threatens the privacy rights and sexuality rights of young people.
